Tabbed Browsers
Are You a Power Surfer? Time For Tabbed Browsers!
If you regularly visit a lot of websites and are quite the power surfer, you may want to consider tabbed browsing. This utilizes a browser that enables you to have multiple windows and sites open at the same time. You just jump from tab to tab that you want to visit. This is a great feature to surfing that hit the net a few years ago and the browser options are skyrocketing.
Here are a few tabbed browsers I’ve tried and liked (by the way – these are all free!):
IE Based Browsers
These browsers are based on Internet Explorer, so you still have the functionality of the microsoft product (and the same liabilities). The benefits to using an IE based browser is that your surfing views are relatively unaffected (websites should display normally).
Crazy Browser This was the first tabbed browser I got hooked on. Very simple, fast and easy to use. There are some tweaks and extensions I can’t use (such as the Roboform and Google toolbars), but it is a browser I enjoy using. It has the ability to open multiple sites and windows inside a single browser task. This Web browser also has a Smart Pop-up Blocker – it blocks a lot of the annoying popups automatically! The only downfall I find is that it doesn’t seem to be updated regularly (as of this publishing date, version 1.05 is still the most recent – 2 years ago I believe).
Maxthon (formerly MYIE2) This browser is a fine IE based browser, plus has a lot of the addons I missed with CrazyBrowser. Maxthon is a powerful web browser with a highly customizable interface. It is based on the Internet Explorer engine (your most likely current web browser) which means that what works in IE, works the same in Maxthon but with many additional efficient features. This browser seems to be continuously worked and tweaked, which means growing benefits to users. The only downfall for me was that I found it to be buggy at times, but I was using beta versions which can account for that. Still, this browser is quite fine!
Non-IE Based Browsers
The non-IE based browser that most satisfied me was the Mozilla Firefox. I really enjoy this browser with it’s many features, extensions and addons (most free). Being non-IE based, it deflects a lot of the viruses and vulnerabilities that affect Internet Explorer. The downfall is that websites sometimes don’t display properly (the websites weren’t designed for other browsers) and that images may not display on some sites. This can all be personally tweaked, so there is a small learning curve and tweaking process involved. I really do enjoy this browser though and love the community effort involved with the building process.
Tabbed browsing has many tips and tricks involved that enables you to zip around the net in a highly organized and speedy fashion. Play with the browser you choose and fiddle around with the options. Soon you’ll tweak your browser to what works best for you and your preferences.
